CASPER, Wyo. — Natrona County School District Associate Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction Walt Wilcox said on Monday that the district will be able to take advantage of remote learning options this school year to avoid snow days that might otherwise force the school year to be extended.
Wilcox said that the Wyoming Department of Education has approved the use of remote learning to allow the district to avoid snow days or other emergency-type situations such as gas leaks that could otherwise force the cancellation of school.
The district has the resources to make technology available to all students when remote learning options are required for inclement weather or other reasons, such as COVID-19 quarantines or isolations. NCSD will also provide wireless services to families that need those on a temporary basis.
School districts are required to offer 175 student contact days per school year under Wyoming law.
Classes for the 2021-2022 school year are set to begin on September 1. Winter break will be from Dec. 20, 2021 – Jan. 2, 2022. The last day of school is scheduled for June 7, 2022, according to the NCSD schedule.
The district has also prepared guidance regarding COVID-19 safety for the upcoming year. Masks will be optional for students and staff unless local, state or federal health orders mandate their use. Masks will be required on buses so long as the current federal executive order remains in effect.
NCSD guidelines for the upcoming year are explained further in this article.
