CASPER, Wyo. — Casper and the surrounding areas should prepare for a snowy weekend, with periods of snow continuing through Saturday morning.

While the heaviest accumulations are expected west of the Divide, Casper can still expect to see some snow. Another Pacific weather system is forecast to arrive in western Wyoming on Sunday, potentially bringing more snow to the Casper area early next week, per the National Weather Service in Riverton.

West of the Divide, snow continues, though the intensity has begun to decrease. Periods of snow will persist throughout today, with a chance for heavier bursts later tonight as a trough axis, a cold front and increased jet energy move through the region. Snow will likely taper off Saturday afternoon and evening.

Significant accumulations are expected in the mountains west of Casper, with a much lower chance of significant accumulation in the Casper area.

East of the Divide, the main concern shifts to snow later tonight and into Saturday morning as a cold front moves south. While some snow is expected in Casper, the setup is different from last week’s event. The jet forcing is weaker, and the front will move more quickly, limiting the snow event to about 12 hours, meteorologists said.

Accumulations in Casper are expected to be lighter, with a less than 25% chance of over 3 inches of snow. Most areas will likely see an inch or more of snow, ending by sunset on Saturday.

Dry weather is expected from Saturday night through Sunday. Looking ahead, another Pacific system approaching western Wyoming could bring snow showers to Casper from Monday into Tuesday, but details remain uncertain.
