GILLETTE, Wyo. — Hunters wishing to head into the field in pursuit of big game this fall but weren’t awarded a license have until Friday to apply for leftovers, according to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

From Monday, June 19 to Friday, June 23, resident and nonresident hunters can apply to pick up a leftover limited-quota hunting license for elk, deer and antelope, Game and Fish says.

The rules differ slightly from the initial draw in that there is no quota split for residents and nonresidents; both groups draw from the same quota, per Game and Fish.

Residents and nonresidents can apply together in a party of up to six for licenses and there are no application fees. Preference points cannot be used and applicants do not lose preference points if a leftover license is drawn. License availability is based on what is allocated in the initial draw, Game and Fish says.

License availability, per Game and Fish, changes year to year for all species and is based on what hunters applied for and received in the initial draw. Many of the licenses available are for areas with limited public access.

“Sometimes there are a lot of licenses, sometimes there are not very many,” said Game and Fish License Section Manager Jennifer Doering in a statement. “The majority of these licenses are in hunt areas in which it may be difficult to obtain access. We encourage hunters to seek permission to hunt prior to purchasing a license.”

Leftover license applications must be submitted online. For questions regarding the leftover draw, contact Game and Fish at (307) 777-4600 or visit a regional office.
