CASPER, Wyo. — Casper City Council members have waived parking fees for residents who will lose on-street parking when the state re-configures a portion of road at the CY Avenue and South Poplar intersection.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation has identified issues at the CY Avenue and South Poplar Street intersection related to the length of the southbound “zipper” lane where two lanes merge into one immediately south of the intersection. WYDOT is recommending extending the two southbound lanes between West 17th and West 19th streets to provide more time for vehicles to merge.

The adjustment can be made within the existing right of way by moving the double yellow center line striping to the east and removing on-street parking, according to a city staff memo. However, people who live along the east side of South Poplar Street between CY Avenue and 1749 S. Poplar St. will lose street parking when the striping is redone.

On May 16, the Casper City Council, in a consent agenda vote, passed a resolution waving the $25 parking application fee and a $25 annual renewal fee for the affected residents.
