(UPDATE 10/5/18 2:38 am) Officials with the Wyoming Highway Patrol have informed Oil City reporters that a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Cole Creek Road Thursday night has died at an area hospital.

(UPDATE 10/5/18 1:50 am) Wyoming Highway Patrol Troopers confirm that a vehicle-on-pedestrian collision closed part of Cole Creek Road in Natrona County on Thursday Night.

WHP officials say that emergency dispatch received a call just after 8:30 p.m., reporting a pedestrian walking in the roadway with dog. Minutes later at approximately 8:50 p.m., Troopers say that another call was received reporting that an individual had been struck on the highway.

Troopers say that the pedestrian was transported to an area hospital.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, however Troopers did say that alcohol use on behalf of the pedestrian is being investigated as a possible contributing factor.

Investigators say that the dog was picked up by a passerby on the scene, is being cared for and was unhurt.

Cole Creek Road was closed just South of Geary Dome Road until approximately 11:54 p.m., Thursday night. Troopers say that the road was completely closed for a time before they were able to open a single lane for both directions of travel. Law enforcement was observed on scene just after 11:00 pm directing traffic.

Troopers were assisted with the handling of the incident by Natrona County Sheriff’s Deputies and by the Evansville Police Department.

(Original Story 10/4/18 11:20 pm) State, county, and local emergency crews were dispatched to an area of Cole Creek Road south of Geary Dome Road Thursday night. The nature of the response has not been confirmed.

Sheriff’s Deputies say that there is currently no threat to public safety.

While Oil City has recieved several reports from readers, a narrative has not yet been confirmed by officals, detailing the incident that led to the response.

As of approximately 11:00 p.m., traffic had been reduced to a single lane in both directions with uniformed Natrona County Sheriff’s Deputies directing traffic.

NCSO officials on scene declined to comment on the incident. Calls requesting comment from the Wyoming Highway Patrol were not immediately returned.
