The Wyoming Department of Transportation has released a crash summary of a fatal collision that claimed the life of an Idaho man.

According to a Wyoming Department of Transporation crash summary, 24-year-old Ryan Coulter died after being transported to the hospital, following the collision.

The crash happened just before 4:00 pm on July 31st, US 26/US 89 near Alpine, in Lincoln County. Conditions at the time were reported as dry and clear.

Investigators believe that the unidentified driver of a vehicle pulling a horse trailer was northbound on Highway 89, while the Coulter vehicle was traveling southbound.  For reasons that have not been determined, the Coulter vehicle crossed the double-yellow center line, directly in front of the opposing vehicle.

The vehicles are believed to have struck head-on.

Coulter was a passenger in the southbound vehicle.

Several witnesses stated the Coulter vehicle had been passing and driving aggressively through the canyon minutes before the collision, and it appeared the driver may have been attempting to pass in a no passing zone at the point of impact.

Officials say that the driver of the Coulter vehicle was arrested for DWUI, and drug use is being investigated as a factor in the collision.

Three other individuals were reported as suffering injuries in the collision, and were transported to area care facilities.
