A Casper woman was booked into jail on multiple recommended charges, after police made contact with her during a traffic stop on different individual.

According to law enforcement records 21-year-old Maxine M. Casias was arrested and booked into the Natrona County Detention Center, just after midnight, on March 4, 2019.

Police say that they had conducted a traffic stop on another suspect, in the moments leading up to the police contact with Casias.

An affidavit filed in the case says that a gray Buick passenger vehicle was observed in an alleyway near the 700 block of North Center Street, with a burned out headlight. Police say that they initiated a stop and made contact with the driver, who was identified as 39-year-old Shawn Borne.

During the contact with Borne, it was found that Borne was not the registered owner of the vehicle.

As the contact with Borne continued, police say that the scene was approached by a woman who came from a nearby motel. The woman was identified as Casias. It was further said that police knew Casias to be in a dating relationship with the registered owner of the Buick.

Police note that they also knew Casias to have a history with controlled substances, and said that she was exhibiting physical symptoms of recent drug use.

Casias was arrested and searched subsequent to the arrest. Police report finding two used syringes on her person.

The suspect reported that the pants she was wearing were not hers, and denied knowing the syringes were inside. She further denied any methamphetamine use.

Police say that they asked Casias why she did not tell them that she had an uncapped syringe in her pocket, to which the affidavit quotes her as replying “the tip was broken off.”

Officers say that they believe Casais knew the syringe was in her pocket.

A backpack that Casias was carrying was also searched, yielding a suspected methamphetamine pipe and a suspected marijuana pipe.

Casias was arrested and booked on recommended charges of Being Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, and Probation Revocation by Police Officer.

The affidavit also says that Shawn Borne was arrested following his contact with police, in the White Buick.

After police investigation, Borne was booked in under recommended charges of Driving While Under the Influence and Driving While Under Suspension.

All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Natrona County District Attorney’s Office.
