CASPER, Wyo. — Recent low temperatures aren’t likely to let up in the coming days, as the National Weather Service in Riverton has declared that a cold weather advisory will go into effect for Natrona County on Sunday night and last into Tuesday.
Today, the forecast indicates a high temperature of just 13 degrees, with windchill values as low as minus 10. The NWS in Riverton reports a 10% chance of snow showers, likely to begin after 5 p.m. Winds could gust as strong as 21 mph.
At night, the Casper area will see a 20% chance of snow showers before 9 p.m. Conditions will be mostly cloudy after sundown, and temperatures are expected to fall to a low of around minus 16 degrees.
The cold weather advisory will go into effect at 10 p.m. and is set to last until 10 a.m. Tuesday. A cold weather advisory is issued when seasonably cold air temperatures or windchill values, but not extremely cold values, are expected or occurring. During a cold weather advisory, people are encouraged to remain indoors if possible. If going outside, people should exercise caution.
Monday is likely to be sunny but frigid. According to the NWS in Riverton, Monday’s high temperature is just 1 degree, with windchill values that will make it feel like minus 20. Wind gusts should reach speeds upwards of 20 mph.
Nighttime conditions are expected to remain mostly clear, as temperatures fall to a low around minus 5 degrees. Windchill values could be as low as minus 25. Winds could gust as high as 39 mph.
