If you or a hunting buddy didn’t bag an elk this year, there’s a place you can go to perhaps ease the pain.
Arby’s.
Specifically the Arby’s on CY Ave in Casper. Starting Oct. 21st, the CY Arby’s is one of only three stores in the country that the Atlanta-based corporation chose to feature a limited edition elk sandwich. The other two stores are in Billings, Montana and Thornton, Colorado.
According to a press release, Arby’s chose the locations based on the popularity of elk hunting in the region.
“We’re all pretty stoked about it,” said the CY Ave. store shift supervisor Simeon McDonald. “It just came out of nowhere, we didn’t expect it at all.”
McDonald said training on making the new sandwich, which features the elk steak topped with blackberry port sauce and crispy onions on a specialty bun, started a couple of weeks ago and wraps up today.
The elk meat is sourced from a farm in New Zealand, according to McDonald. It’s cooked for three hours with seasonings before arriving pre-packaged to the store. There, it will be served in sandwiches cooked to medium but can be cooked to well done if desired.
The elk sandwich comes after Arby’s rolled out a venison sandwich in five locations last year. “They sold out immediately,” said McDonald. The venison sandwich is returning for a limited time nationwide this year. The venison and elk meat come from the same New Zealand farm, according to McDonald.
