CASPER, Wyo. — Locals have a new coffee shop to enjoy, as MOKA Coffee Co. celebrates its grand opening today.
Located at 601 W. Collins Drive, owner Marisela Moreno describes the new restaurant as a “coffee shop with a Latin twist.”
“It’s not just a coffee shop,” Moreno said. “We specialize in Latin food, and especially Latin desserts.”
Moreno said she’s excited for customers to try the myriad of sweet dessert offerings at MOKA Coffee. In particular, she pointed to the shop’s bionico — an assortment of fruit smothered in cream and topped with granola, honey and other toppings.
Other items on the menu that Moreno said make MOKA Coffee stand out include smoothie bowls, freshly squeezed juices, fresas con crema, chocolate-based beverages known as champurrados and horchata espresso.
“If there’s one thing I want the people to know about MOKA Coffee, it’s our desserts,” she said with a grin.
Moreno is heavily involved in the local restaurant scene, owning Mexican restaurant El Burro Loco, El Fogon and Express Solutions – La Tiendita Mexicana. She was also the owner of the Antojitos Shiwas food truck, which later set up shop in the spot that is now MOKA Coffee.
“The restaurant is now El Fogon, and next to it was the mini-market area,” Moreno said. “We decided to move all of our mini-market area stuff to our store in north Casper [Express Solutions] and turn this into a coffee shop. We liked the idea of a coffee shop because it’s near the high school and we’ve got all those kids next door.”
Looking to the future, Moreno said she’s eager to grow MOKA Coffee, introducing even more locals to Hispanic cuisine.
