CASPER, Wyo. — The National Weather Service in Riverton says unseasonably warm temperatures and strong, gusty winds on Thursday will add up to critical fire weather conditions. The red flag warning will affect much of central and eastern Wyoming, with Natrona County under an advisory from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Winds are expected to gust at up to 35 mph, with humidity as low as 10%. Temperatures are forecast in the low to mid-80s.
Stage-one fire restrictions are in effect in Natrona County, meaning fires must be in a contained ring with a 15-foot radius free of burnable materials. The NWS in Riverton advises drowning out any campfires completely and being mindful of anything that could create a spark, including dragging chains on the highway. Smoking materials should also be disposed of properly.
