CASPER, Wyo. — At their regular meeting Tuesday, Natrona County’s commissioners voted to approve work on the Casper-Natrona County International Airport using a federal grant they received July 15.

The federal airport infrastructure grant will allow the county to:

  • Rehabilitate the runway
  • Rehabilitate the runway lighting
  • Install miscellaneous NAVAIDS (short for navigation aids), specifically a wind cone. Wind cones indicate prevailing wind direction at a particular location
  • Install a vertical and visual guidance system on the runway

Most of the construction is projected to begin Aug. 26, according to the commissioners’ agenda.

The Federal Aviation Administration will pay 93.75% of the costs incurred, the maximum amount being $538,590.
