CASPER, Wyo. — Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies (WFBR) is providing $52,000 in direct funding to its 180 partners across the state as part of their COVID-19 response. These funds will support the purchase of food as part of Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies’ Fighting Hunger Feeding Hope Program.
WFBR reported in a Monday, April 20 press release that its partners are requesting more than twice the normal amount of food in order to serve their clients.
“Increasingly Wyomingites are struggling to get food on their tables,” said Tony Woodell, Director of the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies. “We are all ‘leaning in’ to provide the food and essentials to communities as they respond in this crisis.”
The aid is being provided through 43 local grants across all 23 counties in Wyoming, providing 208,000 meals. Through April, WFBR expects to distribute over 4,800 family food boxes (equating to 406,000 meals) through its 180 statewide partners’ new “drive-through” mobile pantry strategy.
Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies is collaborating with First Lady of Wyoming Jennie Gordon and her Wyoming Hunger Initiative, the State-wide COVID 19 Hunger Task Force, The Department of Homeland Security, VOAD, and many other State, County, and Local officials.
According to the organization’s press release, WFBR is the only Food Bank in the state, and is on track to deliver 8.2 million meals in Wyoming in 2020.
“We cannot do this work without the support of our funders,” said Victoria Ziton, Communications/Development Manager for Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies. She said that new and existing funders are stepping up their contributions, including matching gift challenges that can be found online at the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies website, along with volunteer opportunities.
