CASPER, Wyo. — The Casper College Lady Thunderbirds, boasting a conference record of 10–2 and an overall record of 24–11, are getting ready to compete in the NJCAA Region IX and Northwest Plains District Volleyball Tournament, according to an announcement by Casper College.

Hosted by Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen in Sterling, Colorado, the tournament promises fierce competition.

Tournament Play

Kicking off their tournament journey, the Lady T-Birds will face the Lady Trojans of Trinidad State College on Nov. 1 at 5 p.m. in match three. Despite a 5–5 conference record and 16–17 overall record for the Trojans, Lady T-Birds Head Coach Angel Sharman warns against underestimation.

“Trinidad is a lot better than what the record is, so we will need to play our best volleyball this week no matter who we play,” Sharman states.

Ranked No. 1 in Region IX North, the Lady T-Birds have also achieved their first national ranking at No. 17 by the NJCAA. This milestone follows their recent victories against the Lady Lancers of Eastern Wyoming College and the Golden Eagles of Laramie County Community College.

What’s Next

Six additional teams will compete on Wednesday. Should the Lady T-Birds triumph over the Trojans, they will face the winner of the match between Western Wyoming Community College and McCook Community College. This Match 7 is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m.

Teams that face defeat on the first day will enter a loser’s out bracket, beginning Thursday. The tournament will culminate with the final matchups for both the winner’s and loser’s brackets on Nov. 3 and 4, respectively. Champions of the Region IX and Northwest Plains Districts A and B will be decided.

The 2023 NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship is set for Nov. 15–18 at Hutchinson Sports Arena in Hutchinson, Kansas. Fans of the Lady T-Birds can watch the games live on YouTube.
